Fall of Night by Rachel Caine
Title: Fall of Night
Author: Rachel Caine
Genre: Young Adult/Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Penguin (Imprint: Razorbill)
Publication Date: 24th April 2013
ISBN: 9781921880230
Stand alone or series: #14 Morganville Vampires
Pages: 443 pages
Book Received from: Penguin (Publisher)
First Lines: The billboard at the edge of the border of Morganville hadn't changed since Claire had first driven past it on the way into town at the tender age of sixteen.
Synopsis:Claire never thought she'd leave Morganville, but when she gets accepted into the graduate program at MIT, she can't pass up the opportunity. Saying goodbye to her friends is bittersweet, especially since things are still raw and unsettled between Claire and her boyfriend, Shane.
Her new life at MIT is scary and exciting, but Morganville is never really far from Claire's mind. Enrolled in a special advanced study program with Professor Irene Anderson, a former Morganville native, Claire is able to work on her machine, which is designed to cancel the mental abilities of vampires.
But when she begins testing her machine on live subjects, things quickly spiral out of control, and Claire starts to wonder whether leaving Morganville was the last mistake she'll ever make.
My Thoughts:
Admittedly I worried about this book. I loved the characters in Morganville so much that when I had read the synopsis I thought that maybe this book wouldn't live up to my expectations that had been met from the previous books. I shouldn't have doubted Rachel Caine as an author because this was AWESOME!!
Claire moves away from her friends and into an apartment with her old best friend Elizabeth who she works out early on isn't the most ideal place to be. But leaving Morganville behind has its pros and cons. Claire gets to start fresh and finally go to MIT and do what she loves doing, the downside is leaving everyone she cares about back in Morganville. I'm a bit sad at that but she talks to Eve, Michael and Shane enough for them to be included in the novel until they actually appear, which I was super happy about.
The book takes quite an interesting turn when Claire is informed that Myrnin is coming to town and with that brings a whole lot more action and dramas including Eve, Michael and Shane. I am surprised with one thing about this book. In previous books we had various POV's but this time though it is just Claire and Shane. Shane has reigned it in a little too but the one thing I've noticed with him is that he may play well in one book but pulls all the stops and causes havoc in the next so I'm wondering what sort of trouble him and his friends will get into Daybreakers. Because the next book is going to go off with a bang I believe!
As per usual Rachel Caine does not disappoint when it comes to action and keeping me reeled in. I read this book in one day because I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN! We are also introduced to new characters which I'm curious to see how it all goes in Daylighters, book 15 in the series.
I know I shouldn't bring this up but OMG the ending! It's a killer! And certainly not at all what I was expecting to happen at all. So you can imagine how long and painful the wait will be until I get my hands on the next instalment in the Morganville Vampire series but like always it is totally worth it.
Am still wondering how many books in the Morganville series there will be. Keep 'em coming, is all I have to say.

Synopsis
Thanks to the eradication of the parasitic creatures known as the draug, the vampires of Morganville have been freed of their usual constraints. With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town’s human population is determined to hold on to their lives by taking up arms. But college student Claire Danvers isn’t about to take sides, considering she has ties to both the humans and the vampires.
To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville looking for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news… or worse.

My Thoughts:
I've read many series over the years, some very fantastic, some that lose a little bit of the wow the further in I've read, but The Morganville Vampires series just seems to keep getting even better. I've never found a more awesome cast of characters than the ones that appear in each book Rachel has created. Even the bad guys are intriguing!
Black Dawn picks up a day after Last Breath finishes and without even trying I'm sucked back into the world of Claire and her friends. There's no picking up the last book to see what happened last for me.. This is whammo back to familiar ground. And I loved it.
Things have gone from bad to worse for the gang with the draug. Again Rachel has told the story from multiple viewpoints, the main being Claire's. I love how she has introduced glimpses into the other characters heads and to differentiate between the main character and the others she has used first person. Its an awesome way of making sure the main character stays just that!
The stakes are higher than ever for the vampires and the other side of both vampires and humans come out when pushed to the limit. I was very surprised by a few characters actions but majority of the others were to be expected.
I didn't expect to be so attached to certain characters up until the point that their lives were in danger. Amelie was a prime example. While I won't go into any detail, I felt despair at her decline in the book and prayed that they'd find something to help her. Shane was another who I didn't realise I loved so much either. It shows how well Rachel has done with the characterisation, when I'm sitting on the edge of my seat cheering on a bunch of fictional vampires and humans. I did even get a strange look from people around me when I let out a happy cheer. Yes, I may be a little TOO into these books but then again.. thats okay! It doesn't help that I've met Rachel Caine and she's such an awesome woman!
All in all, another fabulous book in The Morganville Vampires series. Oh! How I wish the next book was here already!!
