Synopsis
'War', says the Mayor. 'At last'. Three armies march on New Prentisstown, each one intent on destroying the others. Todd and Viola are caught in the middle, with no chance of escape. As the battles commence, how can they hope to stop the fighting? How can there ever be peace when they're so hopelessly outnumbered? And if war makes monsters of men, what terrible choices await? But then a third voice breaks into the battle, one bent on revenge - the electrifying finale to the award-winning "Chaos Walking" trilogy, "Monsters of Men" is a heart-stopping novel about power, survival, and the devastating realities of war.

My Thoughts
Monsters of Men is the third and final book in the Chaos Walking Trilogy and by far the best.

The Ask and The Answer leaves us hanging what is going to happen with Todd and Viola and is a pretty full on cliffhanger.  An army of Spackle are coming from one direction, Misstress Coyle's army's coming from the other, and a group of settlers have just landed.  Poor Todd must make a decision to release Mayor Prentiss to save their lives.  So you can imagine how much is at stake in Monsters of Men.

The story is told between three main characters, Todd, Viola and a third person who I'll keep quiet about and it gives a good perspective as to what each character is going through while the war is going on!

I'm continually amazed by Patrick Ness' writing and Monsters of Men definitely had me anxious to find out what happens next and I definitely cried in some parts.  So be prepared to have the tissues ready on those bits.

This book definitely had me questioning each characters motives and what they want for an outcome of this crisis.  At times the lines are blurred as to who the bad guys and the good guys really are which I think makes these characters are so easy to love.

If you loved The Knife of Never Letting Go and The Ask and The Answer, you will love Monsters of Men.  It's as action packed and fast paced as the previous two but the risks are unbelievably high this time with so many lives at stake.  Brilliant Book and a great ending to a Trilogy.

  1. i absolutely devoured this series in 4 days - another example of being so happy that i didn't start reading a series until the last book was published - i would've had a heart attack if i'd have been left hanging at the end of either of the first two! I'm really looking forward to reading more by patrick ness.
