Synopsis
I watched his body change.
He crouched on the roof, one hand gripping the edge.  All that strange friendliness disappeared, and he was a hunter.  That was something I recognized, something I was comfortable with because I understood it.

I turned off my brain.  It was time to hunt.  I took a deep breath, drawing in the scent of the blood inside the humans below.  They weren't the only humans around, but they were closest.  Who you were going to hunt was the kind of decision you had to make before you scented your prey.

It was too late now to choose anything.

My Thoughts
I wasn't even sure I was going to read this book.  I loved the Twilight series and I just thought I wouldn't be able to like this one as much.  I was wrong.

Bree is a newborn and only been turned a few short months ago.  Hunting at night, while during the day staying inside away from the sun for fear of turning to ash.  A traditional vampire.

I quite liked Bree.  I wasn't sure I could especially comparing her to The Cullen's but I warmed to her right away, although admittedly I didn't like a few of these characters and I think it was their type alone.  A few other characters caught my eye as well but I will keep that to myself.

A few things that bugged me a bit were the lack of chapters.  I'm not sure if this is a standard for novellas but I found a few times when I had things to do and wanted to put it down  (usually at the end of a chapter normally) I'd have to find a spot where I wasn't completely absorbed with what was going on.  Not an easy thing for me.  The other thing that bugged me was that it was so short.  I realize that she only had a short life in the book but I would have love to have read more about her before she died.

As always I really enjoy Stephenie Meyer's writing and look forward to the next book!

  2. I picked this up cause to be honest, I missed the Twilight world! I ended up hating it when I started, it was a slow beginning but half way through, it started to get good. I guess a part of me was hesitant to like it because I didn't want to get attached to Bree since we all know how her story ends...

I do hope she makes more books like these though, it would be nice to see into a Cullen's mind!
